I have recently made a change in my life by revamping my website. It incorporates more of who I am and what I do. It combines a number of areas. Sometimes you have to do a complete turn around, look at things in a new, fresh way.
Are you ready to make that change in your life? I know there is something gnawing at you, from under your skin. You crave for more fulfilment, expression, and let’s face it – joy in your life. Don’t be scared to take those steps forward. No more hiding!!
It’s time to come out of your shell and explore all the facets of who you are. Do you find yourself hiding parts of yourself to certain people? Let’s turn that thought around – what if you lived, breathed, and let yourself be completely free as a full expression of who you really are in truth.
My challenge was overcoming the fear that my open ‘spiritualness’ might cause some mainstream potential clients to view me a certain way which would decrease my credibility as a professional English teacher, and even as a writer. I juggled with how I could combine all my passion, interests and skills onto one website. Yes, I toyed around with the idea of having two or even three sites to encompass all the different fields, but in the end, the journey took me right back to where I started. At the beginning. At www.nataliakuna.com.
So now I have a one-stop transformational shop. Well, it’s not a shop per se, but a place to come to feel inspired and supported on your transformational journey (I am working hard towards this vision). My goal or ‘mission statement’ is to assist people of all walks of life to embrace change, and work on healing and transforming their lives, to be all that they can be. So the key that ties everything together is ‘transformation’ and ‘personal development’.
On my site you will now find a new developing area called ‘Writing Wisdom’ (this is my new baby that will grow over time and be accompanied by my new ‘Writer Seeker’ blog. There is also an ‘English Tuition’ section to help kids and ESL students with their English and Creative Writing.
I feel great having made this change. It is like a fresh canvas for me to work on and develop. What changes do you wish to make in your life? This is all open up for discussion on my Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/nataliakuna So come and join in on the conversation at any time.

A sail ship’s voyage is a metaphor for life. Read on as analogies are made between a sailing ship and your own life’s journey.
Ship ahoy! Time to get your bearings, prepare the decks and set sail! August is urging you to “Tally Ho!” and take charge of your life. Time to lift your anchor, hoist the main sail and set sail in the direction of your dreams. Watch as the winds take you there, and be prepared for all kinds of waters.
But, just as anyone would prepare well for a grand voyage, let’s take a little journey on the high seas, examine where you are at and what you need to move forward in your life.
How have the seas been treating you? How have you been navigating your life? No doubt you’ve been through some rough, turbulent waters. Perhaps you’ve had to wade your way through choppy seas, thunderous storms or giant mounds of seemingly immoveable ice. Perhaps you have been swimming and swimming tirelessly but not yet had sight of the mainland?
Some of you are still chipping away at the barnacles or taking your time side-coursing, perhaps even doubting the route you are taking, while others seem to be happily cruising along at the perfect speed. Maybe you feel safer in numbers and have needed a team of ships around you supporting you or keeping you company. You might be hiding in the galley or remained anchored, feeling stuck and chained to one place for too long (even if it’s out of your own fear and insecurity). Looks like that anchor’s getting pretty mossy!
“A ship is safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are for.” ~ William Shedd
What is the state of your ship?
Perhaps it looks or feels old, debilitated and worn out? Is it chipped, dented, missing a few components? Is your vessel carrying too much ‘freight,’ inundated with complicated ‘rigging,’ or a navigation system that’s too tech to handle? Got too many things adrift, floating or bobbing up and down on the surface? No doubt, some poor boats have been left stranded, deserted, and left for dust. Maybe they need need a bit of sprucing up with a wash-down, fresh coat of durable weather resistant paint and a touch of TLC. Maybe a name change or time to hop on board a new craft all together.
Perhaps you can’t find that sunken treasure you’ve been searching for, no matter what equipment you have. Feel like your ship has capsized? Perhaps you have been drowning in your fears or emotions or not known how to move forward on renavigate your way. Do not fear, for help is on its way…
ADVICE FROM THE CAPTAIN:
‘Captain Nat’ here, with hands on deck, ready to help you figure out if you are ‘on course,’ or sailing in completely the wrong direction. Read on for some tips and tools to help you take charge of your own ship’s destiny.
Time to take an inventory of your life. Let’s review where you have been, the mileage you have incurred and endured, the experiences you’ve clocked. Make a list of all you have been through, both positive and negative, and in all spheres of your life (work, home, relationship, health, personal…etc) Is everything ‘above board’ (sorted out, processed, in plain view and not hiding)?
Take a look at whether you are steering your own ship or whether someone is doing the driving for you. Maybe you are letting other people or philosophies guide you rather than trusting your own captain’s instinct? Hands on the wheel! If you are afraid to take the reins , then recall the ole saying about taking the reins of your own life, and not letting it steer you.
“Two captains will sink the ship” ~ Turkish Proverb
This one guidance follows on naturally. Follow the callings of your own true heart. Learn to trust your own gut and chart your own map.
“Set your course by the stars, not by the lights of every passing ship” ~ Omar Bradley
In order to be a fine captain and run a ship smoothly ship on course, you need to be in command. No one can be the best motivator and leader in your own life than you. You call the shots. Stay true to you and stay in your seat of power – that’s the captain’s seat!
“The only safe ship in a storm is leadership.” ~ Faye Wattleton
5) Remember, it’s all Trial & Error
Don’t take the trip so seriously. It is all a learning curve. Relax and have fun. And remember, what is a voyage without a few mishaps and adventures along the way. So stop being hard on yourself and when the waves come crashing, put on your raincoat, hold on to your helm and carry on forth.
“I’m not afraid of storms, for I’m learning how to sail my ship.” ~ Louisa May Alcott
To soar ahead valiantly, you must not be a quitter. Never fear. Keep charging forward and sail ahead Matey! Always look ahead.
“If my ship sails from sight, it doesn’t mean my journey ends, it simply means the river bends.” ~ John Enoch Powell
Have you got on your captain’s suit? Are you in your full nautical attire? Are you standing tall and proud and wearing your captain’s hat? When we look the part, take care of our appearance, and present a fine ship to the world, then we will be respected and honoured for the true sailor we are. Don’t be afraid to show off your seafaring spirit and let your marine presence shine!
“A ship is always referred to as she because it costs so much to keep one in paint and powder” ~ Chester W. Nimitz
There are tools that you can use to help you along our way. No ship can set sail without it’s inner mechanics & outer gear. Each vessel is equipped with whatever is required for the journey. Do you have all the gear you need? Pack well, and plan ahead.
Does everything seem like it’s not working out? If you feel like abandoning ship, first examine whether this is your natural ‘flight’ instinct vs ‘fight’ response. What is causing you to feel this way? Do you have any underlying fears? Re-group and re-assess. Go back to that inventory list. Does your script need to be tweaked or changed, or is it truly time for a complete overhaul?
No vision can sustain itself and materialise, without clear, empowering goals.
“Without goals, and plans to reach them, you are like a ship that has set sail with no destination.” ~ Fitzhugh Dodson
Visualise yourself as a strong, valiant, beautiful, bountiful sea liner: clean, white, piercing though the water proudly, on its way to conquer the ocean and reach its final berthing destination, with many port o-calls along the way. Where do you want to your ‘port o’ call’ to be? Write down your goals. Create a vision board. Be visual and dream big. The world is your oyster and ocean your pearl! Is your dream a ship in a bottle, or an attainable path?
“A soul without a high aim is like a ship without a rudder”. ~ Eileen Caddy
Brace yourself, I am throwing you a line. Help is always at hand. For what good is a ship without a crew or rescue team! Make sure you have the support you need around you and don’t hesitate in asking for help. Every vessel get’s in trouble at some point of time, so light up your flare and be ready to catch that lifesaver! There is always someone there to throw you a rope and lend a hand.
Seen and unseen forces guide us every day and act as clues and pathways so we know what step to take next on our voyage. Sign posts are there, all around us – in the sea, the sky, and the birds that fly ahead. Hear a foghorn in the wind? A warning in the breeze? Stay aware and keep your binoculars with you.
As much as it’s important to take charge and be in control, we also have to learn to let go of the wheel and let it do it’s own driving. Sometimes we need to take a back seat, take a break and turn on the auto-pilot. Nothing comes to you if you force it. So keep your vision clear, but also let nature and Spirit do it’s thing. You never know where it may take you, and what surprises are in store.
“It’s not the towering sail, but the unseen wind that moves the ship” ~ Proverb
Even when things seem dark, uncertain and frightful, know that there is always a light that helps guide your way. Whether it be a dim lantern, bright beacon, fluorescent buoy or omnipresent lighthouse, or even the stars in the night sky; there is always light.
15) Lean on God
God is everywhere. When things seem hard or you feel you are losing your way, keep your faith and say a prayer to God. God hears our thoughts and sees our quest. Just like sailors used to have a siren (mermaid) carving on their helm for good luck, lean on God for support. Maybe call upon Poseidon, ancient Greek God of the sea!
Let me help you re-navigate yourself back on track.
